Why Did A Self-Described “Florida Man” Show Up to #FreeBritney?
The plight of Britney Spears being labor trafficked under her conservatorship exploded across the public consciousness after the release of the New York Times’ “Framing Britney Spears” in February 2021. By March 2021, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) showed up to the party as the most visible member of congress to support the #FreeBritney movement.
While most elected officials limited their comments to a tweet or two, Gaetz quickly requested a House Judiciary Committee hearing on conservatorship and frequently appeared on public platforms supporting the #FreeBritney cause.
Britney does have ties to Florida—she owned a $2.2 million condo in Destin, Gaetz’s congressional district, Additionally, started her career in the Orlando-based Mickey Mouse Club. Could Gaetz’s vocal support for Britney be a part of a coordinated plan to sabotage the movement? Gaetz was welcomed into the #FreeBritney movement and made headlines for speaking at a rally outside the Los Angeles courthouse on July 14, 2021. At this court hearing, Judge Brenda Penny ruled that Britney had the right to choose her own lawyer, something she hadn’t been able to do for 13 years.
Gaetz’s Sudden Advocacy: An Offensive Move Against Mutual Enemies?
The Department of Justice’s investigation into Gaetz’s alleged involvement in sex trafficking and other offenses was leaked to the press in late March 2021. Given this, it seemed suspicious that the Free Britney movement, based in Los Angeles, would allow Gaetz to speak at their rally. This decision cast doubt on Free Britney L.A. and raised questions about their control over a movement meant to be worldwide.
Gaetz’s Legal Troubles
At the time, Gaetz’s support for #FreeBritney seemed like an obvious attempt to distract from his alleged crimes, raising concerns that the movement had been compromised by nefarious players. The coordinated attack on Gaetz damaged his public image, making it easy to assume the evidence against him was overwhelming. For instance, just days after the allegations against Gaetz became public, headlines like “Florida Prosecutor Suggests Matt Gaetz Could Face Life in Prison for Sex Trafficking” were already making waves.

Lower Alabama (L.A.) vs. the South Florida Swamp
Matt Gaetz represents Florida’s 1st congressional district, which includes the panhandle—a region I know well, having lived there for five years as a military dependent while my father worked at Eglin Air Force Base. I even briefly attended Bluewater Elementary with Gaetz, although I was a grade ahead of him. Given his reputation, I used to joke, perhaps regrettably, that I was always too old for him.
When Gaetz showed up to support the #FreeBritney movement, it struck me as odd. His presence at the Los Angeles courthouse rally drew backlash, especially against those who gave him a platform. Yet, Gaetz wasn’t the only Florida politician to insert himself into the movement.
The Role of Florida Democrat Charlie Crist
Shortly after Gaetz questioned why no Democrats were supporting #FreeBritney, Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL) entered the #FreeBritney movement. In retrospect, it seems likely that California Democrats exerted pressure to contain the story. Britney’s conservatorship was established in California, involving key figures in both state government and Hollywood. For instance, Governor Jerry Brown declined to investigate Britney’s conservatorship in 2008 when he was the Attorney General of California. One of Brown’s longtime supporters is music mogul Irving Azoff, whose son served as Britney’s talent agent during the conservatorship.
On the same day Gaetz appeared at the Los Angeles rally, a rally also took place in D.C., where someone from Crist’s team approached the group Free Britney America regarding proposed legislation. Cassandra Dumas of Free Britney America had connected with Free Britney LA after Britney’s June testimony to coordinate with any advocates they knew in the D.C. area. Both groups provided input to Crist’s office, yet Free Britney LA eventually withdrew their support of the proposed legislation.
On July 20, 2021, Crist introduced the Free Act to Congress alongside Rep. Mace (SC-01). Free Britney America faced extreme backlash from the online #FreeBritney community and was accused of being a paid lobbyist advancing the interests of the conservator lobby. This situation seemed bizarre at the time, but over time it has become increasingly clear that bad actors infiltrated the movement to sow discord and control the narrative. At the time, advocates were unaware of Crist’s questionable past with Lou Pearlman, a notorious Florida music mogul who exploited young artists.
Florida “Swamp” Men: Charlie Crist and Lou Pearlman
Charlie Crist, who served as Florida’s Governor, Attorney General, and U.S. Representative, had a history with Lou Pearlman, the notorious music mogul known for creating boy bands like the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC in the 1990s. These boy band members earned relatively little under Pearlman due to their exploitative contracts. Britney Spears briefly worked with Pearlman early in her career, and her longtime manager, Larry Rudolph, originally served as Pearlman’s contract lawyer.
In 2008, Pearlman was. sentenced to 25 years in prison for orchestrating one of the longest-running Ponzi schemes in U.S. history. The charges included conspiracy, money laundering, and making false statements in a bankruptcy proceeding. He defrauded investors of hundreds of millions of dollars, most of which was never recovered.
Yet, Pearlman had previously been implicated in 2002 of another fraudulent scheme running a model-scouting company. Despite over 2,000 complaints in Florida and New York, the investigation was quietly ended in 2004. Crist’s refusal to prosecute Pearlman, who was a campaign donor, raised questions about his motives. Crist also faced scrutiny for accepting campaign donations from other questionable figures, including an illegal contribution from Ukrainian businessman Volodomyr Shcherban at a 2006 campaign event at Mar-a-Lago.
Pearlman appears to have been part of a much broader network of South Florida power players that launder large amounts of cash and target attractive young people. After his death in 2016, Pearlman has also been accused of being a pedophile by numerous victims. As my research deepened, it became clear that these connections hinted at a broader network involving political corruption and organized crime, seemingly aimed at containing the #FreeBritney narrative.
Tensions In The #FreeBritney Movement
East Coast-West Coast Pop Feud
As the movement gained momentum, it became clear that powerfuk external forces were also at play. Advocates found themselves under surveillance by Black Box Security, a private Israeli security company hired by Jamie Spears. These pop culture fans and disability movement advocates seemed ill-prepared to effectively detect and address the bad actors infiltrating their ranks. Meanwhile, the mainstream press focused primarily on portraying the conservatorship as the result of a poorly educated, substance-abusing father, further obscuring the real story.
On the same day Gaetz appeared in L.A., I attended my first #FreeBritney rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. It was an empowering experience, but when people learn about my involvement, they often assume I’m just a pop culture fan or have a parasocial relationship with Britney.
What actually drew me to the movement was my ongoing fight against mental health stigma, supported by my professional background in family violence. In 2007, at 25 years old, I experienced my first psychotic break, which led to involuntary hospitalization and a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Just days before, I had been preparing to testify in a court case where my co-workers and I had been secretly videotaped changing clothes at work. Before the trial, I had grown increasingly paranoid that I was under constant surveillance. Because my mental health issues stemmed from being a victim of surveillance, coming back from psychosis to a reality steeped in pervasive mental health stigma felt particularly cruel.
During the mid-2000s War on Terror, this period was marked by a strange explosion of celebrity fever, reality tv, and relentless paparazzi coverage. Mainstream media and upstart blogs alike relentlessly covered and maligned “troubled” starlets—often trafficking in harmful mental health stereotypes. As a young anti-war activist, it felt like a bizarro world where 2008 presidential campaign ads were centered around Britney Spears while U.S. troops were in Iraq and Afghanistan. It seemed that societal elites were distracting from dubious U.S. foreign policy by chastising famous white women for their perceived misbehavior.

Surprise! Gaetz used #FreeBritney as a cheeky taunt to goad his enemies, even inviting Britney to speak before Congress. While I believe Gaetz genuinely sees conservatorships are unconstitutional, he was facing some powerful enemies in 2021. It was a clear and noble reason to be noisy in public. Some may be hesitant to reconsider Gaetz’s #FreeBritney motives given his strident conservative views. However, dismissing him because of ideology can obscure the truth. Bill Barr entered the Justice Department in February 2019 as a critic of Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, backed by support from Jewish conservative groups. Gaetz, meanwhile, earned the ire of the Justice Department for various reasons. It was a weird time with a lot of interlocking plot points.
Iran, Chinese Drones and Florida Voter Fraud
On January 2, 2020, President Trump authorized a drone strike to kill Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, one of the most powerful and anti-American leaders in Iran. This was followed on January 8 by a retaliatory missile strike against Al Asad Airbase in Iraq, injuring 110 U.S. service members—39 of whom were awarded Purple Hearts, with many suffering traumatic brain injuries.
Initially, it was reported that only a few soldiers had minor injuries, which President Trump described as “headaches.” Gaetz, known as Trump’s golden, suntanned Florida Man, but Trump’s authorization of the drone strike against Soleimani gave him pause. As is abundantly clear now, there have been continuous proactive measures by the Israel lobby and others to push the United States into war with Iran.
Gaetz was one of three Republicans who voted in favor of a House resolution to prevent Trump from taking additional military action against Iran unless Congress declares war or in the event of “an imminent armed attack upon the United States.” The president and the Republican leadership vigorously opposed the measure.

By May 2020, Gaetz called on Barr’s Justice Department to ground all “DJI drones owned and operated by U.S. government entities, local law enforcement, and state law enforcement, over national cybersecurity concerns that the drones may be providing data to the Chinese government.” The presence of DJI in the U.S. has remained a national security concern, as Rep. John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) recently urged Attorney General Merrick Garland’s DOJ to investigate the Drone Advocacy Alliance, funded by DJI, for potential violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).
While Gaetz defended Barr against impeachment by the Democrats in June 2020, Barr was targeting Gaetz behind the scenes for issues related to voter fraud in Florida. Barr, and many others, publicly echoed some of President Trump’s allegations of potential voter fraud in the 2020 election. Yet, Barr ultimately resigned from the DOJ on December 23 due to Trump’s insistence that the election was stolen. Barr needed a clean break from January 6’s “Stop the Steal.”
The 2020 Florida election fraud issue is intriguing. Larry Keefe, a U.S. Attorney in Tallahassee and former law partner of Gaetz, wanted to investigate voter fraud throughout Florida. His legal reasoning was that any voter fraud cases would ultimately be tried in his jurisdiction since Tallahassee is the state capital. However, Barr’s DOJ did not want Keefe to conduct this investigation. When Keefe consulted Gaetz regarding the legal rationale for the Florida investigation, it infuriated Barr.
Months before news broke that the feds were investigating him for sex trafficking, Rep. Matt Gaetz was at the center of a separate internal fight at the Justice Department. The sparring match involved an Oval Office meeting, a foul-mouthed threat from the attorney general and voting in Florida. It has not been previously reported.

In March 2021, Bill Barr allegedly leaked to New York Times reporter Katie Benner that there was an ongoing secret DOJ investigation into Gaetz for alleged minor sex trafficking. Gaetz was aware of the investigation, and his father, Don Gaetz, had been approached with a proposal: if Don Gaetz paid $25 million to help them secure the release of former FBI agent Robert Levinson from Iran, they could arrange a presidential pardon for Matt. Levinson had disappeared in Iran in 2007 while working with the CIA . Don Gaetz had the wherewithal to contact the FBI and wear a wire during this attempted shakedown.
This entire situation is unusual, especially since Levinson was declared dead by his family in March 2020. How could this group offer a presidential pardon from the Biden administration? Did they already know that Gaetz had allegedly requested a “blanket” presidential pardon before the New York Times broke the story in April 2021?
By September 2021, Gaetz’s use of #FreeBritney as a proxy to publicly ridicule his enemies wasn’t enough to stop serious consequences from a baseless DOJ investigation. As Vanity Fair’s headline blared: Matt Gaetz Has Apparently Hired a Who’s Who of Sex-Crime Lawyers to Defend Him. Despite his public criticism of this network, including their use of Pegasus spyware, the defamation campaign was so strong that many, especially left-leaning individuals, still believe he is a pedophile.
The DOJ announced in February 2023 that they chose not to charge Gaetz, although there is still an ongoing investigation by the House Judiciary Committee. Gaetz has asserted it’s a nothing-burger, and I’m inclined to believe him, despite being a vegetarian. On the other-hand, Barr should be scrutinized if you think Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself.
Ronan Farrow: A Journalistic #MeToo Segway
The role of the media in shaping public perception cannot be understated. Ronan Farrow, a key figure in exposing such stories, also became entangled in this web, raising questions about his own role in either exposing or containing these narratives. Like Gaetz, Ronan Farrow avoids directly addressing this network, instead focusing on long-form reporting about Pegasus, Britney Spears, and endangered journalists. During the course of Farrow’s Harvey Weinstein investigation, he faced surveillance and infiltration attempts from the private intelligence Israeli firm, Black Cube.
Farrow’s reporting also extended into the Stormy Daniels hush money case against Donald Trump, which has become a sensational, long-lasting news story that distracts from Trump’s more perilous deeds.

When a Sole Journalist Becomes The Story About A Foreign Intelligence Network
Farrow’s coverage raises questions: Is he truly exposing these stories, or is he merely containing them? Consider how Sir Len Blavatnik, a Soviet-born billionaire and owner of Warner Music Group, as well as a film financier for figures like Steve Bannon and Harvey Weinstein, escapes scrutiny. Feminists are still loathe to admit, or are clueless, that #MeToo was hijacked by higher orders of business. This reminds me of a particularly tense five-person panel interview I had with Times Up during the sexual assault allegations against then-presidential candidate Joe Biden.
Tara Reade, Biden’s accuser, claimed that Rep. Matt Gaetz warned her she wasn’t safe in the United States. Subsequently, Reade moved to Russia, requested Russian citizenship, and maintained contact with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
"One of the biggest disappointments has been that Matt Gaetz hasn't stepped up," Reade told Newsweek. They wanted me to come June 7 to [Washington] D.C. and that's where we were gonna start the process [of me testifying before Congress]. And I was looking forward to doing that."

The Gaetz Slander Machine
The media swiftly turned its defamation machine on Gaetz. As I previously mentioned, I spent years thinking he was a bad-faith actor in the #FreeBritney movement. The attacks from the Democrat-aligned media were clearly coordinated. In April 2021, Project Veritas released secretly recorded video footage of CNN senior technical director Charlie Chester, who outlined how Democrats were targeting Gaetz because he was “too conservative”. Shortly thereafter, Gaetz published communications from reporters at the Daily Beast and Mother Jones, who pressured people in his network to fabricate negative stories about him. Propelled by this slanderous reporting, one of his former staffers was even visited by the FBI.
These operatives found it easier to attack Gaetz from a non-conservative angle, using partisanship as cover. This is strange, given that Gaetz had sided with Democrats to deter an escalation with Iran—a noble break with his party. Clearly, there was an effort to obscure the important congruence between Gaetz and the Democrats. After the secret investigation was leaked by the New York Times, Gaetz was also shunned by the conservative media, with the exception of Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, who notably had also broken with party lines by criticizing President Trump’s drone strike on Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani.
The same week the secret DOJ investigation was leaked, SNL was ready—opening their show with a skit that both dehumanized Britney’s conservatorship fight and solidified Gaetz as “a sex pest” in the public’s imagination.
The MGM Connection
The Daily Beast, a publication that frequently reported negative stories about Gaetz, often featured articles by Roger Sollenberger who owned stock in DJI, the Chinese drone company—an easily identifiable bias on the reporter’s part. Synchronicity is key to understanding all of this. Barry Diller, former Chairman of Live Nation, owned the Daily Beast and invested $1 billion in MGM Resorts in 2017. This was the largest investment in MGM since the very strange Route 91 shooting in Las Vegas in 2017, the most deadly mass shooting in history. Never call it the Mandalay Bay, owned by MGM, shooting.
Britney’s connection is that she went on a work strike in 2018 to avoid starting a new Vegas residency at Park MGM. This decision not to start a new residency didn’t occur in a vacuum. It was influenced by a broader network of powerful figures who had a vested interest in controlling Britney’s career and, by extension, her life. At the time, her residency was at Planet Hollywood, which is owned by Caesars. Additionally, Live Nation played a central role in monetizing Britney's conservatorship by overseeing her management, ticketing, and promotion. We can’t overlook the powerful network linking Britney’s conservatorship to the witch-hunt against Gaetz.

Gaetz needs to understand, they did not just try to ruin his career, they tried to have him thrown in prison and bankrupt his family. The people he’s gotten on the wrong side of aren’t messing around. This is the true face of the Israel lobby. -
Gaetz’s rather enthusiastic supporters will no doubt think that it was the Deep State that went after Gaetz. Au contraire it was the Anglo-American Deep State that freed Gaetz. We knew full well that he was an ally on the inside of the Trump presidency, notwithstanding the many attempts by the Netanyahu Israelis to cancel him for his opposition to invading the Middle East. -
Joel Greenberg: A Taxman and Gaetz’s “Wingman”
Joel Greenberg, a Seminole County tax collector in Florida, was indicted on 33 counts in 2020 for numerous crimes. By mid-2021, Greenberg pleaded guilty to six federal offenses: “sex trafficking of a child, illegally producing a false identification document, aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, stalking, and conspiracy.” There are many eyebrow-raising facets to Greenberg’s activities, such as creating fake Florida IDs and troll social media accounts, but collectively, these actions point to a much larger scheme involving multiple methods aimed at compromising Gaetz and force him to bow to the will of a much larger criminal/intelligence network.
For years, Gaetz has continued to be linked to the criminal proceedings involving Joel Greenberg. Gaetz himself described Greenberg as his “wingman” during their time partying together with beautiful women. However, there is no smoking gun evidence that Gaetz was involved in all of the criminal activities Greenberg was engaged in.
After the secret DOJ investigation into Gaetz was leaked, he an wrote op-ed in the Washington Examiner titled: “The swamp is out to drown me with false charges, but I'm not giving up” where he plainly asserted the facts of the situation and didn’t apologize for having consensual sexual relationships with adult women:
Folks won’t be surprised that bizarre claims are being made about me shortly after I decided to take on the most powerful institutions in the Beltway: the establishment; the FBI; the Biden Justice Department; the Cheney political dynasty; even the Justice Department under Trump.
Yes, just like the mafia, the D.C. swamp protects its “made men.” Since I’m taking my turn under the gun, let me address the allegations against me directly. First, I have never, ever paid for sex. And second, I, as an adult man, have not slept with a 17-year-old.
Perhaps this came off as defensive at the time, but it is a shame that Gaetz didn’t go on the offensive and name names. However, he found himself isolated with few public defenders. Would it have muddied the waters if Gaetz had revealed even more bizarre facts about what was really going on?
Greenberg entered into a cooperation agreement with federal investigators, which enabled him to delay his sentencing. It was reported that Greenberg had provided voluminous documents and intel implicating Gaetz. Ultimately, Greenberg was sentenced to 11 years in prison. After Greenberg’s sentencing, his attorney asserted there were “much bigger fish” lurking in the “dark abyss” of a much larger criminal conspiracy.
It was also suspicious that Greenberg was paying the lawyer representing Gaetz’s alleged minor victim, who had been calling Gaetz and his associates, apparently recording the conversations for potentially incriminating statements. In 2023, it was revealed by investigators that Greenberg was to have been in possession of child pornography.
Stephen M. Alford was convicted of trying to extort Don Gaetz in the $25 million Iran/hostage situation, which started only two weeks before the New York Times broke the secret DOJ investigation. There was also Bob Kent, a former Air Force intelligence officer, involved in the plot, who had received a $75,000 payment from the State Department for services related to Bob Levinson. It gets weirder given that there was a strong consensus that Levinson was dead. Was a Levinson rescue operation a cover for “off the reservation” covert ops orchestrated by bad Americans working with Israeli intelligence?
Consider this:
…we should note that the ask to Don Gaetz, in amount ($25 million) and purpose (to get him out of legal trouble in the United States), is identical to the one the FBI approached Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska about in mid-2008. That doesn’t prove it came from the same people, but it’s perhaps a bit suggestive. Deripaska told John Solomon in 2019 that he believed Levinson was dead.

Was Greenberg Part of an Israeli Spying and Blackmail Ring?
The interaction of the players in these bizarre events suggest an organized operation extending beyond the realm of South Florida and Iran. As tax assessor for the Florida government, Greenberg had significant power that could be exploited by bad actors, including hostile foreign intelligence agencies or domestic traitors. Greenberg had access to information from a statewide database, and according to his indictment, he disclosed and transferred personal information—but to whom and for what purposes?
Reporters at the Orlando Sentinel discovered that Greenberg had inappropriately accessed the confidential information of hundreds of individuals, including Britney Spears. Could Greenberg have been taking requests for database access and moonlighting as a spy running a blackmail ring?
Gaetz Writes to the Israeli Ambassador
By September 2021, Gaetz sent a short and sweet letter to the Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan questioning why Jake Novak, the Broadcast Media Relations Director at Israel’s Consulate in New York, had advance knowledge of the secret DOJ investigation into Gaetz and participated in the Levinson operation and extortion attempt on Don Gaetz.
This information came to light through texts between Novak and Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert comic. In one text,
Novak appears to represent himself as deeply involved in the efforts to free Bob Levinson from Iran, telling Adams “this is screwing up my efforts to free Bob Levinson.”
“Gaetz’s dad was secretly finding [sic] us,” he continues. “So I’m very much wanting this to be untrue. I’ve got a commando team leader friend of mine nervously waiting for the wire transfers to clear.”
The Israeli-influenced crackdown on #FreePalestine protests on college campuses opened many eyes to the extent of foreign influence over American politics, including the restriction of free speech and press. This influence has been long standing, with the latest efforts led by Gilad Erdan.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been increasingly concerned by the growing pro-Palestinian activism on American college campuses, and especially its boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement targeting Israel. The more the movement took hold on campuses, the more Netanyahu was worried about losing America’s billions in aid and its critical support in the United Nations. It had to be stopped. He therefore put Gilad Erdan, a close confidant, in charge of the shadowy Ministry of Strategic Affairs, with the top priority of launching covert operations within the US to crush the pro-Palestinian movement and to secretly go after its supporters, any way he could. - The Nation, May 16, 2024

In the beginning of the Gaetz scandal he routinely spoke about supporting the #FreeBritney movement, even giving cheeky sound bites regarding Britney’s plight such as this:
Israeli intelligence tightly controlled Britney’s life, managing her security and likely suppressing negative stories about the conservatorship. Anyone Britney interacted had to be approved by her father, even romantic partners. It is interesting her Iranian boyfriend, Sam Asghari, received the green light.
I wonder if Sam Asghari is more aligned with Israeli interests than containing the American war machine. Asghari and Britney’s relationship began when he starred as her love interest in Britney’s 2016 bisexual banger “Slumber Party.” Asghari was ambitiously trying to make it in Hollywood and, even if not his intention, dating Britney would help his career.
Asghari has an interesting pre-Britney history, dating a Cuban immigrant from Miami, who was also an aspiring singer/model/actress/influencer named Mayra Verónica Aruca Rodríguez. In 2013, she signed with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music. Cowell is also the mastermind behind the X Factor singing competition. “Britney” received $10 million for serving as a judge on X Factor in 2012.
Where is the Truth?
It feels quite telling that Britney’s now husband became one of the most prominent Iranian-American critics of the Iranian regime, not that there are that many. Sam Asghari and Britney came out in support of protesters in Iran, which were rightfully enraged by the suspicious death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman lethally injured in police custody who was arrested for not wearing a hijab correctly.
Amini's death sparked protests in Saghez that spread around the country and ultimately posed one of the biggest threats to Iran's clerical establishment since the foundation of the Islamic republic in 1979.
At least 500 people were killed around the country after the Iranian authorities clamped down on the demonstrations with brutal force.

Incredible report. Gaetz still aint it. I live in Walton Co FL currently.. not a lifer or military but been here ~9 years, transplant from Tx and in relationship with one of the AF Eglin brats that went to Niceville and had Gaetz knocking on his door. The Gaetz flags flying big and high as I type here in LA. (I about fell out when you hit us with the “Lower Alabama,” no one I talk to ever says that, ty!)
After reading, I realized there is quite a bit to marinate. But I still believe Matt Gatez is terrible for America, especially for Florida.
