California Scheming: Lou Taylor & Jamie Spears Head West
What if everyone you've ever known could be bought off?

This is a story that was enabled by generational wealth and legacy power, which the Spears family and Lou Taylor do not have. Isn’t it wild that it Jamie was in business with casino billionaires prior to and during the Britney Spears’ conservatorship?
Oh, you didn’t know that?
The Seduction of a Family
Lou Taylor first ingratiated herself with the Spears family by acting as their spokesperson, confidante, and deal broker. This position allowed her to be at the forefront of planning and establishing the conservatorship.
Lou leveraged her position in Britney’s orbit to rapidly grow her company, Tri Star Sports and Entertainment. However, it was only after the successful launch of Britney’s “Piece of Me” Las Vegas residency in 2013 that her client roster exploded with A-list celebrities. Delivering Britney to Las Vegas brought Lou her bonafides.
How did Lou worm her way into the Spears family’s orbit? I believe this occurred at the intersection of business relationships and exploiting the family’s personal crises. Earlier in this series, I synthesized key data points that demonstrate how Lou likely perfected this template using Ron Artest and Niki Taylor as case examples.
It was not Britney’s personal challenges in 2007 that introduced Lou to the Spears family. The critical moment when Lou entered the picture appears to be due to Jamie Spears’ susceptibility to undue influence because of his enduring challenges with alcohol and gambling.
How Exactly Did Lou and Jamie Connect?
The way Lou and Jamie first connected has remained murky even within Britney’s fanbase. The most frequently mentioned hypothesis is that Lou met Jamie through church or through Jamie Lynn. Yet, Lou was based out of Tennessee, so it is hard to imagine they met by randomly being at the same place.
There has been ample evidence presented in Britney’s ongoing legal battle in the Los Angeles probate court that Lou enthusiastically planned the conservatorship with others. On February 25, 2008, Lou wrote an email to Jamie Spears’ attorney Geraldine Wyle, In that email, Lou plainly states she has been praying and fasting (i.e. working) with Jamie for the past 3 years. In the following email, Lou advocates for herself to be named trustee of Britney’s multimillion-dollar trust.
“I have fought for Jamie for 3 years, prayed and fasted with him every week and life has changed drastically because of this determination.” 1
This email was written in February 2008, the same month that the conservatorship started. This indicates Lou likely connected with Jamie in the winter of 2004/2005.
Previously, I have argued that Lou Taylor bares all the traits of a cult leader. Cults recruit adherents in times of vulnerability. I believe that when Lou Taylor first connected with Jamie Spears, he was likely highly susceptible to undue influence.

2004: Jamie Arrives in California
In the fall of 2004, Jamie had stayed at a rehab facility for his alcohol addiction.2 According to the Twitter account @/Britneythestan, after this rehab stay, Jamie reportedly moved to California to start anew after he and Lynne Spears divorced.
By late 2004, Jamie opened a Smoothie shop called JJ Chill in Venice Beach, California. Britney made a few appearances to help promote the shop. During this time, she was rethinking her career path and wanted to help her new husband launch his own career.
“My new hobby is experimenting with all different types of art lessons,” Spears wrote in a new letter to fans. “Maybe I’ll even do my sister’s make-up next year for big events... At this point and time, what I want is not my face on every [magazine] cover, but someone else’s instead. I really want to help other people achieve their dreams and possibly even develop new artists.” - Britney Spears in Today, November 8, 20043
2005: Jamie is in Business with the Maloofs
According to an interview with Jamie Spears in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, it appears the Maloof family were pivotal to providing income to Jamie when he arrived in California in 2004 or 2005.
Larry and George [Maloof] were good friends. I had come to California. I was thinking about trying to go to a chef’s school or something. Larry told me, “Let me talk to George.” So I loaded up my truck. I took all my stuff down to Phil’s condo on Wilshire Boulevard, and I went and cooked for him: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, Southern stuff. That’s what I cook, Southern stuff and comfort food, Louisiana food. And he hired me. So it was a long, very good relationship.

JJ Chill was only open for about a year. However, Jamie already had a new business lined up with the billionaire Maloof family, launching in January 2006, called Palms Home Poker Host.
2005: Lou Taylor is Connected to the Maloofs
In 2005, Lou Taylor signed on to be the business manager for the basketball player Ron Artest.5 Ron Artest was coming off a huge NBA scandal called Malice at the Palace. Throughout 2005, Artest was gearing up to return to the court after a long suspension and was often seen with those involved with the Sacramento Kings.
By 2006, Artest would sign on to play for the Sacramento Kings, who were owned by the Maloof family. By this time, Lou was building a reputation as a fixer for troubled celebrities and athletes. I have already established that the Maloofs were friendly with the Spears family at that time. The most likely scenario is that the Maloofs were the conduit through which Lou Taylor connected with Jamie Spears.
2005 - 2006: Jamie Spears and Lou Taylor
In January 2005, Jamie Spears changes the name of his Louisiana business, Develop & Design Build, Inc., to Spears Management Inc. It is unclear when Lou Taylor and Jamie Spears officially started doing business together. However, by December 2006, Jamie Spears registered Spears Management, Inc. as a foreign corporation in California, using Tri Star’s Tennessee address.
Jamie Spears’ home address used on the 2006 Spears Management paperwork matches the address on the petition to conserve Britney in February 2008:

The Curious Case of Jason Alexander
Jason Alexander is the man Britney was married to for 55 hours in 2004. The marriage occurred in Las Vegas while Britney and Jason were staying at the Palms Casino. It was George Maloof who connected them to a lawyer to quickly annul the marriage.6 Jason was quick to hire his own publicist and seek opportunities to cash in.7 His involvement in the Britney story has fluctuated wildly over time. Sometimes he is critical of the family and the conservatorship, while at other times he is supportive.
Jason Alexander became curiously embedded in the #FreeBritney movement. There is evidence he routinely communicated with very sincere #FreeBritney advocates. Additionally, allegations have been made that advocates financially sponsored Jason Alexander’s appearance at a #FreeBritney rally in Los Angeles.8
Why Were Jason Alexander and Jamie Spears Neighbors in 2006?
In 2006, Jason and Jamie somehow became neighbors in Studio City, California. This certainly couldn’t be a coincidence. I have been able to locate a handful of news reports about this connection, and their addresses can be confirmed via California business records.

Tri Star is listed on Jamie Spears’ 2006 Spears Management, Inc. paperwork, marking the earliest documented connection between Jamie and Lou. This makes these Louisiana natives being California neighbors all the more suspicious. Why would Jason, Jamie, and Lou’s paths all collide in 2006?
A #FreeBritney advocate used my original post regarding this weird coincidence and made their own post about it on Instagram. Britney’s former long-term assistant, Fe (Felicia) Culotta, even liked the post. This seems to indicate there is more to the story, but so far, Fe has declined to speak publicly about Lou Taylor. In the documentary Controlling Britney Spears, Fe told the New York Times that “[Lou Taylor] will chew me up and spit me out.”
What could be even stranger? Jason is out partying with Kevin Federline’s ex-partner, Shar Jackson, around the time he was neighbors with Jamie.9
How would they even meet? By 2012, Shar and Jason were dating, and it was reported by Radar Online that they “were introduced several years ago at a gifting suite in Los Angeles and have been friends ever since, but a few weeks ago they began dating.”10
Things Changed by the end of 2006
Jason Alexander: The Author
If Jason was somehow receiving benefits from Lou and Jamie, it was over by the end of 2006. Jason threatened to spill Britney’s “sex secrets.”11
A few days later, Jason went on The Dr. Keith Ablow Show and said Britney called him and left a voicemail saying, “Don’t say anything you’d regret.”12
Jason Alexander and Jamie Lynn’s Teenage Pregnancy
Upon the news of Jamie Lynn’s teenage pregnancy, Jason advised the purported father (via the New York Post) to watch out for the Spears family.13 This occurred approximately five weeks before the conservatorship started.
But because Jamie Lynn is with child, Alexander thinks her beau might get a better treatment from “the Spears corporation.”
“First thing I thought when I heard about Jamie Lynn was at least that boy got her pregnant so they couldn’t tell him what to do like they did me,” he said.
“He’s got a little more leeway – more rope to pull with. All I had was a signed marriage license.” - New York Post
Jason Alexander: The Spears, Inc. Advocate?
Roughly two weeks after the conservatorship began, Jason was flagrantly supporting Spears, Inc. He even had the audacity to claim that Britney doesn’t want custody of her children. Ever since Britney Spears has won her freedom, she has emphasized that her children were the main reason she went along with everything.
“But [Britney] told me it [custody] doesn’t matter to her any more, because she’s not ready to be full-time mom and she can always have more kids later on…”
Jason said he thinks it is "awesome" that Britney's parents are back in her life and, despite their recent bitter rifts, the singer is "very happy that her mom and dad are there."

Jason Alexander: A Lou Taylor Minion?
Recently, Lynne Spears had a very public falling out with someone in her inner circle named Jacob Diamond. Diamond posted videos on Instagram of himself being gifted Britney’s belongings by Lynne Spears, as well as private texts with Lynne’s inner circle that claimed Jason attended Lou Taylor’s church. The texts can be viewed on the Twitter account @/freebritplease. While I can’t independently confirm Jason went to Lou Taylor’s church, it seems he has been routinely dusted off to play be a pawn in the big leagues.
As for Diamond, he was recently served a restraining order from Lynne Spears.15

Casino Bros: The Maloofs
The Maloofs were right in the center of the 2000s pop culture milieu, amidst the rise of paparazzi, tabloids, and reality TV. The Palms even hosted the Real World: Las Vegas and was featured in the first season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. The power players behind Britney’s conservatorship are the same ones who propelled the Kardashians into the American psyche.
The ultra-wealthy Maloof family played a significant role in Britney's story during the 2000s, yet this relationship has curiously been lost to history.
The Romancing Era: Jamie and the Maloofs
It is exceedingly frustrating that the media has failed to report on the multiple entanglements Jamie had with the the Maloofs before and after the conservatorship began.
The following photo was commonly used during the media’s coverage of Britney’s fight to end the conservatorship.16 The photo originates from the launch of Jamie’s collaboration with the Maloofs on a poker tournament software program called Palms Home Poker Host. The media rarely identified where the photo was taken or what specific event they were attending. The photo was often cropped so the Palms logo was not visible, or occasionally the logo was blurred.
One press release blared: “Revolutionary Software is Brainchild of Jamie Spears.”17 This is a very generous description of Jamie’s intelligence, given he was an unwitting pawn in a game of four-dimensional chess.
According to the archived website, the software will allow you to “Impress your friends when your tournament runs smoothly with the help of Cindy Margolis and the rest of the virtual staff. The Palms Casino manages every detail through interactive video, in this must have tool for all poker players.”18 At this time, Cindy Margolis held the coveted title of the “most downloaded person on the internet.”
In August 2006, JSM1, LLC was registered in Nevada by Jamie Spears and the Palms.
Do I Smell A Con Cooking?
Jamie & Lou’s Secret Ingredient…
Jamie was working as a private chef for the Maloof family in 2007. It is unclear how regularly or for how long Jamie worked for them. One gossip blogger wrote:
You never EVER see Daddy Spears in pictures or anything. I once saw him on an episode of Dr. 90210, because I think he's personal chef to one of the Maloof daughters or some shit like that.19 - D Listed, December 27, 2007
It was reported that Jamie Spears skipped Christmas 2007 with the family and spent it working. This appears to be a media strategy of painting him as a hard worker, while Lynne Spears is profiting off her children.
Jamie has been working long hours as a private chef to make a living while ex-wife Lynne, as Us Weekly reports in its latest issue (on newsstands now), arranged a $1 million deal with OK! magazine for the story of Jamie Lynn's pregnancy. Lynne also receives a percentage of her daughters' salaries.20
Adrienne Maloof, George Maloof’s sister, may be recognized as an inaugural cast member of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Her ex-husband, celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Nassif, mentioned on his TV show Botched that Jamie Spears was his chef and that their families even spent Christmas together!
FYI: Lynne Spears has written that Jamie & Lou were planning to execute the conservatorship for six weeks prior to it beginning on February 1, 2008.21
The six-week time period between the conservatorship being planned and executed actually begins the week of Christmas. Remember, Jamie had skipped Christmas with his family to work for the Maloofs.
Did Lou come help him cook, or were they all working together?
Post-Conservatorship: Jamie and the Maloofs
Jamie continued his business relationship with the Maloofs after the conservatorship began. He worked on the Maloof Money Cup, a skateboarding competition owned by the Maloofs, in 2008 and 2009.22 Britney Inc. also continued doing business with the Maloofs, such as filming her I Am Femme Fatale MTV special at the Palms in 2011.
Lou Taylor and the Spears Ladies
Before the conservatorship began, most of Britney’s immediate family were involved in business dealings with Lou Taylor. Britney’s brother, Bryan Spears, seems to be the one exception.
By 2008, Jamie Spears and Lou Taylor were on the paperwork for Jamie Lynn’s Sweet Jamie Music, while Lou also brokered the deal for Lynne Spears’ memoir. Based on available information, it appears that pathway of Lou’s infiltration of the Spears family began with the patriarch.
Lou’s New Protégé: Jamie Lynn
In 2007, Britney’s sister Jamie Lynn was starring in the hit Nickelodeon show called Zoey 101. By the end of the year, Jamie Lynn was pregnant at 15 years old. In her 2022 memoir Things I Should Have Said, Jamie Lynn wrote that her parents wanted her to terminate the pregnancy. The family was extremely concerned about the public finding out, as well as Jamie Lynn’s financial future. This is when Lou Taylor appears to have taken Jamie Lynn under her wing.
Jamie Lynn writes of Lou Taylor:
“Mrs. Lou Taylor had staunchly defended me in the midst of the turmoil. She had become a part of my team two years earlier, and I grew to trust her to oversee my interests. But Ms. Lou had a vested interest in keeping me profitable. As my pregnancy progressed, Ms. Lou became a mentor to me, teaching me financial planning and budgeting to keep me solvent.” - Things I Should Have Said, p. 87-8823
The public announcement of Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy came via an exclusive $1 million deal with OK! Magazine for $1 million. Reuters reported that this deal was brokered by Lynne, who stood to financially benefit from the sale of the story.
Actress Jamie Lynn Spears and her mother, Lynne, were paid about $1 million by OK! Magazine for the exclusive story on her pregnancy, with options to purchase additional material, including first pictures of the baby. "Lynne knew OK! would pay the most," says a source. "It was her decision."24
A source close to the family indicated that Jamie Spears worked hard for his income and would never profit off his daughters, unlike their mother Lynne.25 It is unclear if this dispute was legitimate or just a facade, as Britney has said they planned the conservatorship together. Or could it be just to lay the groundwork for making the argument to America that Jamie was capable of taking on fiduciary daddy duty??
Either way, Jamie Spears skipped Christmas with the family and spent it cooking for the Maloofs.

Whatever that deal struck by Lynne Spears entailed, OK! cashed in on their options to buy more exclusive content from Spears, Inc. After the conservatorship began and throughout 2008, OK! published many exclusives regarding Jamie Lynn and Britney.
A Side Note on Jamie Lynn and the Maloofs
There is one article that mentions Jamie Lynn being signed to a record deal with Maloof Music, a partnership with Interscope Records. However, I have not found additional sources to substantiate this claim.
The Maloof Brothers, Sacramento’s former playboy owners, created Maloof Productions during their high-flying mid-2000’s heyday. Their highest-profile music signing was Jamie Lynn Spears, younger sister to Britney, though she never released an album with them, possibly due to her teen pregnancy or because she was too busy stealing her sister’s money.27
Momma Lynne
In 2007, it was announced that Lynne Spears was set to publish a book about being a parent in Hollywood, which was set to be released on Mother’s Day 2008. Lynne sealed a deal with the Christian book publisher Thomas Nelson and teamed up with the ghostwriter Lorilee Craker.
The Michigan-based freelance [Lorilee Craker] writer has been working with Lynne Spears since March on a book chronicling Spears’ experiences raising a family in the glare of the media spotlight.28
Upon the announcement of Jamie Lynne’s teenage pregnancy, the publication of the book was placed on hold.
Lindsey Nobles, a spokeswoman for Christian book publisher Thomas Nelson Inc., said Wednesday that the memoir by the mother of Britney Spears was put on hold last week. She declined to comment on whether the delay was connected to the revelation that Spears’ 16-year-old daughter, Jamie Lynn, is pregnant.
“I can tell you that we are standing behind Lynne and supporting her decision to be with her family at this time,” Nobles told The Associated Press.
“Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World” was initially scheduled for release May 11, Mother’s Day. Spears, the mother of three children with ex-husband Jamie Spears, had been working with a Michigan-based freelancer since March on the memoir chronicling Spears’ experiences raising a family in the public eye.29
By the end of 2008, Lynne Spears released a memoir retitled Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World. In the acknowledgements, Lynne thanks Lou Taylor and states that she connected her to her ghostwriter, Lorilee Cracker.
“Lou Taylor: thank you for believing I had a story to tell and for the faithfulness in making it happen. It is a blessing to see that God uses all things for the good of those who love him.” Through the Storm, p. 208
It is unclear when Lynne started shopping her book proposal around, but it seems Lou Taylor helped her seal the deal. Lou Taylor had a standing relationship with the publisher Thomas Nelson, having published her book in 2006 entitled Becoming: A Devotional Bible for Women. Lou Taylor co-wrote this “bible” with renowned devotees of the Evangelical Christian doctrine.
Reflecting back, Jamie Lynn seems proud of one of her family’s earliest collaborations with Lou Taylor.
I just knew I had to make my own way. As for Momma and Ms. Lou, they came together as guiding forces in my life and even coordinated the deal for Momma’s book Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World.

During her press tour, Lynne Spears appeared on the Today Show and denied she ever intended to publish a parenting book, not mentioning its original Mother’s Day publication date.
Britney described how painful this period of her life was and how Lynne’s book and book tour compounded her pain.
The last thing I would do would be to cut my hair in half, cut into a bob and put on a tasteful pantsuit and sit down on a morning show set across from Meredith F*cking Vieira and make money off my child's misfortune. - The Woman In Me
Lou Taylor Is Not An Evil Genius
Lou Is Introduced to America
In 2008, Lou Taylor was introduced to America on the Today Show as the public spokesperson for the Spears family. At that time, Lou Taylor was based in Nashville, and later that year she would open the first Tri Star office in Los Angeles. If you follow Britney’s story closely, you will notice that there is routine use of specific media outlets that appear uniquely friendly to Britney, Inc.
Dr. Phil’s Cameo
Dr. Phil had an established relationship with the Spears family, as they had been involved in a celebrity cookbook called Star Palate that was published in 2004. Lou finagled her way onto TV by responding to Dr. Phil McGraw’s public statements in regarding his visit to Britney in the hospital.
Britney experienced two involuntary psychiatric holds in January 2008. During the first hospitalization, Dr. Phil visited Britney at the request of her family. Prior to this hospitalization, Lynne Spears had been in conversation with Dr. Phil to appearing on his show. These plans for a TV special were fortunately scrapped, but Dr. Phil still experienced extreme blowback for making the following public statement:
"My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," McGraw told the programs.
"She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her," he said. - January 6, 200830
Lou Taylor went on the Today Show ostensibly to pushback against this initial Dr. Phil statement.
In response to Lou Taylor, Dr. Phil wrote a lengthy statement on his website regarding the rumors swirling around his visit. It is an illuminating read.31 There appears to be a power struggle going on behind the scenes, and it seems as though Dr. Phil realized he got played. Lou Taylor’s call for Britney’s privacy set the tone for keeping the realities of the abusive and illegal conservatorship secret.
At the same time, Lou Taylor is calling out Dr. Phil on the Today Show, Harvey Levin is making similar statements to Fox News.
In a recent Britney documentary made by TMZ, Harvey Levin confirmed that Jamie was his source in 2008.
By the next day, a counter-narrative emerged, suggesting that Britney reportedly thought Dr. Phil is “cool.”
A source confirmed to ET that Lou Taylor is not a spokesperson for the family and that McGraw was indeed invited by the family.
They said that Britney was receptive to his visit and thought he was “really cool”.32
It feels like a pristinely directed "reality news movie," truly an ensemble cast—from the LAPD, to the LA Probate Court, hospital, paparazzi, and media. The public was hypnotized and couldn’t actually see what was happening because there were too many flashing lights.
Lou Is Introduced to Britney
There have been conversations within the fandom that Lou Taylor entered Britney’s orbit as her Christian “life coach” in 2006. This was reported in the online version of US Weekly,33 but I have not been able to access a full version of the article to see if it actually mentions Lou Taylor. I have ordered a physical copy from eBay and will report back if there are any further clues about who this coach may be.
It seems unlikely that the referenced Christian “life coach” is Lou Taylor. There are emails that many believe to be written by Britney that have been circulated online for many years.34 It doesn’t sound like Britney is familiar with Lou at all, much less an awareness that Lou has ingratiated herself with the Spears family.
The following email was purportedly written by Britney to her attorney Gary Stiffelman, requesting help because Lou Taylor was stalking her and she was afraid.
Note: Gary Stiffelman’s law firm is listed on the California business paperwork for Sweet Jamie Music in 2003.
Many people believe that the following paparazzi clip of Britney references an interaction where Lou Taylor told her “to go to the light and find Jesus.”
Lou Taylor made several critical missteps if she ever intended to claim innocence in planning the conservatorship:
Being photographed at Britney’s house.
Being photographed at the hospital while Britney was under an involuntary psychiatric hold.
Wrote emails to Jamie’s attorneys strategizing the judge selection for the conservatorship.
Making a $40,000 loan to Jamie Spears before the conservatorship, which is almost the exact same amount as the pre-conservatorship lawyer fees - fees that were waived. Nevertheless, those lawyers cleared out hundreds of thousands of dollars from Britney’s account that year.
Lou Taylor just isn’t that smart. There’s no way a nobody can show up in Hollywood and get the LAPD to do their bidding. NO WAY!!!
The CONservatorship Begins
After the conservatorship began, one of the first people Britney was photographed with was George Maloof.35 Jamie immediately banned Britney from communicating with almost all of social circle. Why would Jamie permit this outing with his billionaire business partner?
Immediately, gossip blogs were hinting that Britney might be secretly working on a Vegas deal with George Maloof.36
A few weeks later, George was interviewed by the Las Vegas Sun and described Britney’s recent trip to Las Vegas to celebrate Father’s Day with Jamie Spears.
With Maloof at her side for most of the weekend and following two recent dinner dates he had with her the past month in Los Angeles, rumors have been fueled that the twosome are plotting a comeback show at his Pearl Theater at the Palms. George, who was swamped with media calls from as far as halfway around the world about Britney’s visit, only confirms they are good friends and admits that he would love to have her perform there. “That would be great,” he said, “but honesty, it hasn’t been discussed in any way whatsoever.”

Days after the Las Vegas Sun article was published ,TMZ reported that Britney was working with George on a new album.38 Immediately after the conservatorship began, it became clear that George was angling to play a significant role in the Britney, Inc.
A ShakeSpearsean Tragedy
Over the past few years, the media’s portrayl of Britney’s story has all the tenets of a Shakespearean tragedy. There have been very few deeply reported articles about the bigwigs intimately involved in what happened to Britney.
In the few articles that have been published, the authors’ thoroughness belies an ingrained classism and vacuous interpretation of this singular event in pop culture history. The unwillingness of the authors to situate the conservatorship in the Gilded Age Redux either betrays their social position in the intelligentsia, hints at deficient analytical abilities, or suggests their reporting is a pointed act of subterfuge.
I challenge you to do a comparative analysis of this article and the ones done by New York Magazine or Vulture.
Perhaps the difference is that I have complete editorial control?
What if everyone you have ever known could be paid off or manipulated into selling you out? Britney is so singularly famous that few are ever presented with this Faustian bargain. Never discount how easily people can be compromised when Hollywood is writing the terms of their contract.
